John H. de Jong, DVM, Principal

Dr. John de Jong

John de Jong is owner and founder of Newton Animal Hospital. A 1985 graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, he has taken on many leadership roles in organized veterinary medicine having served as president of the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, the New England Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Housecall Veterinarians. He currently serves on the Executive Board of the American Veterinary Medical Association. His primary interest is surgery and he also owns and operates the Boston Mobile Veterinary Clinic. He is a weekly columnist for the Boston Herald and is a monthly talk radio guest on the syndicated Howie Carr Show. Boston Magazine and the Improper Bostonian have both recognized him previously as Boston's Best Veterinarian. His personal interests are politics, fishing, golf and rugby and he enjoys family time with his wife and two sons.

Carole Lee de Jong, Principal

Carole de Jong joins her husband as principal and Director of Marketing. A Boston native, Carole spent over twenty years in the radio, print and television advertising sales industry. Her main focus at the hospital will be community outreach, advertising, marketing and creating strategic partnerships within the pet industry in Newton and the greater Boston metropolitan area. She is also buyer for the pet boutique and always on the lookout for one of-a-kind high quality pet merchandise. Her goal is to provide the clients at Newton Animal Hospital with unsurpassed value and resources so that all of your pet needs, education, services and questions are always answered. Carole is also a realtor, an author and a contributor at the Boston Herald. She enjoys tennis, golf, cooking and spending time with husband and two sons.

Jaclyn Spaulding, Practice Manager

Jaclyn Mendoza

When you enter the hospital you will no doubt be greeted by the experienced, and caring Jaclyn Spaulding. Jaclyn was born and raised in South Boston, where she worked both as a veterinary technician and receptionist. From Boston, Jaclyn moved to Hawaii. During her time on the island of Oahu she continued to work in veterinary medicine as a veterinary technician. She lived and worked on Oahu for just shy of 4 years and then moved to California. Jaclyn continued her work as a technician and joined the management team of a small animal/ exotic practice where she stayed for 4 years. We are pleased to announce her arrival here at Newton Animal Hospital as Practice Manager. With her hard work, dedication, and knowledge of veterinary medicine, we know she will meet not only your needs but your furry family members as well. On occasion you may see an appearance of her Golden Retriever named Chevy and African Gray Parrot named Lexi.

Jenny-Ree Hedges, BVMS

Jenny Hedges

Dr. Hedges joined Newton Animal Hospital in January 2014. A 2009 graduate of The University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine, she practiced as a veterinarian in London. In 2013, Dr. Hedges and her husband relocated back to the United States and settled in Massachusetts. Before heading across the pond, she received a bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Rutgers University and worked as a veterinary technician in various practices throughout New York and New Jersey.

Dr. Hedges enjoys all aspects of general practice, but has a particular interest in management of chronic diseases and senior pet care.

Dr. Hedges is a Member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the British Veterinary Association, and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association. She lives in Watertown with her husband and their Jack Russell Terrier, Pudge.

Jennifer K. Probert, DVM, CCRT

Jennifer K. Probert

Dr. Probert grew up in upstate NY. She attended Quinnipiac University to receive her first Bachelor's in Veterinary Technology. After graduation, she moved to Colorado, earning a second Bachelor's degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University. From there, she was accepted to the Western University of Health Sciences in California to receive her veterinary degree. She became a certified canine rehabilitation therapist in 2011. Professional interests include surgery, dentistry, and canine rehabilitation. She currently has three pets: Bee Gee, a Chihuahua/terrier mix, Roxy, a German Shepherd, and Scarlett, a cat who was her first spay in veterinary school.

Noelle Litra, DVM

Dr. Litra received her veterinary degree from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in the spring of 2015. After graduation, she accepted a position in Boca Raton, FL, where she remained for just over a year. Shortly after assisting in the opening of a new hospital there, she made the move back to snowy New England in the winter of 2016. Originally from the Hudson Valley region of New York, Dr. Litra is happy to be back in Massachusetts and excited to be a part of the team at Newton Animal Hospital. She has a passion for surgery, as well as dentistry. In her free time, Dr. Litra enjoys running, horseback riding, and spending time with her cat, Harvey, a rescue from her days in veterinary school.

Adam L'Esperance-Chouinard, CVT

Adam L'Esperance-Chouinard

Adam joined Newton Animal Hospital in December of 2013. He graduated in 1998 from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and began his first career in construction management. After 10 years of working first as an assistant project manager and then as a field superintendent, Adam decided to return to school to turn his love of animals into a new career. He graduated co-valedictorian of his class with a 4.0 from Mount Ida College in 2013 and became a Certified Veterinary Technologist (CVT) in January of 2014. Adam enjoys all aspects of veterinary technology but has a special interest in surgical anesthesia. Adam is a member of the Massachusetts Veterinary Technicians Association. He lives with his wife, two children, a Chinese shar-pei, and a Siamese cat in Brookline.

Anastasia Hawkins, RVT


Originally from Northern California, Anastasia graduated from UCLA with a Bachelors of Arts degree in History in 2010. Having always loved animals and volunteering at various animal shelters, she began her career as a veterinary technician at a small companion animal hospital in West Hollywood, CA about five years ago and decided on a career working with animals. She recently graduated in 2015 with an Associates of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, CA. She took and passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam and the California Registered Veterinary Technology Exam. With her husband, Topher, a native New Englander, she moved back to the Boston area this summer along with her 3 cats, Wookiee, Jawa, and Tatooine. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, coloring, and being with her husband and cats at home.

Emily Penney

Emily Penney

Emily moved into the Boston area two and a half years ago and has been working in the Veterinary field as a Receptionist and Technician ever since. Emily also volunteers full time as an Adoptions Coordinator and Foster for a local animal rescue. Caring of all animals is her passion and is always willing to help out a furry friend in need. She spends most of her free time volunteering at events and fundraisers. Currently she lives in Watertown with her hound mix rescue dog named Lily.

Suji Kim

Suji Kim

Suji graduated from Boston College in 2015. She previously worked at Massachusetts General Hospital while completing her pre-medical post-baccalaureate program at Northeastern University.

She is currently applying to Veterinary School to attend Fall 2018. At Newton Animal Hospital, Suji is working as a receptionist and training as a Veterinary Technician. Suji is from New York City where she grew up in Brooklyn. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, running, and playing with her cat, Athena.

Ceili Jones

Ceili Jones

Ceili (Pronounced "Kay-lee") joins Newton Animal Hospital as receptionist. She comes to us from the hospitality business where she excelled in customer relations. Ceili was born in Brighton. A New Englander in her own right, she grew up around many animals which cultivated her love for all creatures great and small. She resides in Watertown with her boyfriend and two turtles, Marshmello and Leche. When she is not meeting and greeting our clients at NAH, she enjoys baking, music and art. You will recognize her sweet smile and warm greeting when you enter the doors at NAH.
